On Saturday, uMngeni Municipality in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Department of Social Development hosted the uMgungundlovu Big Walk & Recreation Day.
The five-kilometre walk started from the Howick West Indoor Sports Complex traversed through surrounding informal settlements and Sphumelele Township in Ward 01 raising awareness on drug abuse and prevention with participants displaying placards containing various and relevant information to the campaign.
In attendance were representatives from all the local municipalities within the District and from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment. Leading the awareness was Ward 01 Councillor Siyabonga Lamula.
