The programme to clear alien invasive plants has begun in Merrivale. This is a Department of Forestry, Fisheries & Environment (DFFE) funded initiative that combines two programmes, that is, the Eco Furniture and Work for Water. The clearing of alien invasive plants will take place primarily on municipal owned land as well as certain sections of the Transnet servitude that are badly affected by these alien invasive plants. For now these projects will be focusing in Merrivale and Howick and will hopefully be expanding to other parts of the uMngeni Municipality.
