Our disaster sub-directorate together with uMgungundlovu Disaster, together with non-profit humanitarian aid relief organisations Gift of the Givers and Al-Imdaad Foundation as well as SASSA assisted residents impacted by disaster in Esitendini informal settlement in Ward 3 where shack fires left 267 people displaced. The affected were assisted with 40 blankets and 40 sponges by the uMngeni Municipality, while Al-Imdaad assisted with 60 hygiene packs and 50 blankets, while Gift of the Givers assisted with 67 food packs and uMgungundlovu District assisted with 40 blankets and 40 sponges. SASSA assisted 70 of the displaced residents with food vouchers worth R2281 each.
In Ward 01’s Thokoza Phase 2 informal settlement the uMngeni Municipality assisted where four shacks were gutted down by a fire, leaving six people displaced and one person injured, with sponges and blankets and the Ubuhlebenkosi Support Group, a non-profit organisation operating in Ward assisted with a soup kitchen.
In Ward 05’s Karkloof area the uMngeni Municipality assisted where a house’s roof was damaged due to strong winds. The Municipality assisted with plastic sheeting.
In Ward 11’s Korea Section the uMngeni Municipality assisted where a fire affected an outside building. There was one injury is this incident and the Municipality assisted with disaster relief which included sponges and blankets to the three victims.
In Ward 01’s Shiyabazali informal settlement three people were affected when the roofs of their shacks were blown due to strong winds, the Municipality assisted with plastic sheeting.
