Today, His Worship the uMngeni Mayor, Chris Pappas, along with Council Speaker Janis Holmes and Municipal Manager Mzi Hloba, led the commemoration of Global Recycling Day, observed every year on March 18. This day aims to highlight the significance of recycling as both a resource and a business opportunity, rather than just a means of dealing with waste.

The invited audience included learners from Injoloba High School and Nogqaza Primary School, uMngeni waste pickers, and personnel from the Community Works Program. They observed a presentation from Oceans Plastic Technologies, which demonstrated how plastic can be recycled and transformed into a thriving business. Additionally, Flic Blakeway showcased how waste can be converted into compost for household use.

The Municipality emphasised the importance of collaborating with organisations to make meaningful contributions toward safeguarding the environment.
