After three years and six months without a permanent accounting officer, uMngeni Municipality has appointed a municipal manager who commenced her role as the head of administration on November 1.
Thembeka Cibane, has vast and wide ranging senior management expertise in local government. She became a general manager: Corporate Services for Vulamehlo Municipality under Ugu District Municipality in the south coast in 2007, a post she held until she was appointed municipal manager for Ndwedwe Local Municipality under Ilembe District Municipality in the north coast in 2011.
Cibane left Ndwedwe Local Municipality in 2016 after she was tasked by the Provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to be an administrator in Emadlangeni Municipality in Utrecht.
uMngeni Municipality Mayor, Sizwe Sokhela, said that the appointment of the municipal manager is important in that the strategic direction of the municipality already laid out by the administration and Council will have a full time accounting officer to fast-track its implementation.
“On behalf of the Council and residents of uMngeni Municipality, I welcome Thembeka Cibane. With her appointment I am encouraged that our municipality will improve where it was lacking,” said Sokhela.
Speaking about her appointment Cibane said: “I am very excited about coming to uMngeni Municipality. I am committed to ensuring that my stay here will have a positive impact that will benefit our people in uMngeni”.
