Greetings Howick residents,
It has come to our attention that councillors from some political parties were in Mevana on Saturday agitating some community members.
Mevana residents are being encouraged by these councillors to block roads and march to the municipality. This after power has been off since Thursday after an infrastructure fault
The muncipality will not restore electricity until all meters have been audited. The municipality was ready to carry this work out on Friday but was prevented from doing so.
Some residents of the Mevana community are preventing the municipality from conducting audits of electricity meters.
Municipal employees and contractors have been threatened and even held hostage in this area before.
The municipality is losing up to R80 Million a year in electricity theft. As this worsens the municipality will no longer be able to deliver any services.
We ask that all residents encourage your neighbours, family, friends and employees to pay for electricity.
Those who cannot afford electricity can apply for free basic electricity (200kwh) at the municipal offices.
_*Alert*_ residents are advised to be alert for any criminal activity aimed at sabotaging Infrastructure. Residents are also advised to plan for possible disruptions on Monday morning.
SAPS and Public order policing have been alerted
We apologize for any inconvenience in dealing with the matter of electricity theft.
*Regards*
Cllr CJ Pappas
Mayor
