In his welcoming remarks during the celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy that took place at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site earlier today, His Worship the Mayor of uMngeni Municipality, Chris Pappas, said that South Africa’s democracy is not merely a destination but a journey, it is a daily commitment to the values that unite people and brings people together. The Mayor said that today’s celebration is a rededication of the commitment of that journey and to Mandela’s vision.

The celebrations taking place at the historic Mandela Capture Site are led by the Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong. Also present is the Mayor of uMgungundlovu District Municipality (uMDM), Mzi Zuma, Msunduzi Mayor, Mzi Thebolla, uMngeni Deputy Mayor, Sandile Mnikathi, uMDM Deputy Mayor, Sibongile Dlamini, Msunduzi Municipality Speaker, Eunice Majola, uMngeni Municipal Manager, Mzi Hloba and the programme of the day is directed by uMngeni Municipality Speaker, Janis Holmes.
